Merger control & public policy: FDI a cause for concern?

    in Competition Matters

It has been reported that the UK government may be considering adopting wider powers to block foreign mergers. This may take the form of a specialized committee, following the US model; the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) or alternatively amending the merger and CMA's mandate.

What do you think? Should FDI be scrutinized? and if so, to what end? and how? a specialized body or within the mandate of competition authorities?
